Short belt

I have a track day coming up and I want an unseen edge. Are tehre any Ill effects to running a short belt? I would think that with the tensioners it would be easy to swap back and forth. What accessories should I exclude when making my short belt. Do I need anything except the water pump and alternator? thanks

Bad Andy

I think the biggest thing when running a short belt is to bypass the power steering. The ALT. doesnt put out much drag and the AC has a clutch on it.

just pull the belt completely off. it can run without it. i gained a tenth and 2 mph by pulling mine. definately worth the 2 minutes it takes to do it.

Is the steering anything to worry about with no power? Those are some big damn tires to be turning manualy.

Bad Andy,
You can NOT run without a belt like the LT1 guys. Your water pump is belt driven.
Just get a short belt to bypass the power steering if you feel the need.

I just examined the belt route a little closer. How the hell can I route a belt without the power steering pump? It looks like I would have to leave out the PS pump and the driverside tensioner pulley as well. Does any one have actual experience with this on an LS1? how do I measure for the new belt?
