1st time at the track tonight and.....
Tonight was my first time ever racing my car (legally) in 1/4 mile. It was bracket racing night and I actually did quite well in that portion of the contest ( 5th in my class out of 50 cars... woot for auto trannys!) I am however, not happy with the times I was pulling. My best was as follows:
R/T .516 (absolute luck)
60' 2.21
330' 6.18
1/8 9.36@ 77.17mph
1000' 12.12
1/4 14.41@97.94mph
The weather conditions were so so tonight. The temp on that run was 78ish degrees and the humidity was like 80% and rising. Track prep was pretty good. Wheel spin was pretty inconsitant throughout the night for me. I tried launching just by mashing the gas. Sometimes the rear broke loose and others it did not. I also did the good ole' brake launching same results.
My 60' was consistantly 2.2/2.3 range all night long. I know that the 60' time is like 95% of the race and the 2.0 60's are respectable. I know this is bench racing but how much would better 60' times help my time?
I also know my gears suck (2.73's :embarrasment: ). How would going to... oh say 3.42's help? (I know... bench racing again)
I really think my car has low 14's in it as it is right now. I just need some help getting there. Any tips for launching.... stuff like that?? Sorry so long and as always thanks for your input!

Mike

Your times aren't all that bad considering the 80% humidity factor.. My car can loose as much as 3-4mph w/ humidity like that.. So don't be too dissappointed.. What kind of tires are you running? if your tires are lack luster than you can pretty much kiss your 60ft goodbye.... So if you were per se to get a 2.doh 60ft you could in essence run a 14.doh-14.1... That being said.. if the weather would have improved to about 40-50% humidity and the combo of a 2.doh 60ft.. you could possibly see a 13 sec pass.. for your mods.. your times are on par for what most LT1's w/ the basic's run..Get that launch down and you'll have some better results'..
I've been searching for this post. Finally found it at 6:30 in the morning.
I kinda figured it wasn't going to be a record breaking night-there was NO HP in the air. I'd honestly be lucky to get a 13.6 on a night like this.
I promise we'll ALL be at Norwalk next Wednesday Mike. That is-unless I have a JOB
and have to work
. Its just with the group if the Grand Prixs not running there's slim pickins for people who are willing to go as a group. And everybody's BROKE.
My wife even yelled at me for not going-she said its Mike's first time at the track and your not going-but yesterday shesaid WE'RE NOT GOING. Women-who knows
.
But like I said-I PROMISE WE'LL GO AS A GROUP NEXT WEDNESDAY! I need a new PB - 13.38 or faster
that will put me in 4th fastest in the state!-at least for a week or 2.
Mike,
give me a call or stop over today-I'll be in the garage rebuilding my tranny.
PS. for every tenth off your 60ft time-it will take about a 1.5 tenths off your 1/4 time. So on a night like tonight-prolly a 14.0-14.1 and good weather (the HP making kind) 13.8s are very possible. And your gearing REALLY SUCKS
. Gotta get that changed.

I ran BD last night. 50 was a rough guestimate.... maybe a little on the conserveatitive side. It was fun none the less. The guy who knocked my out was sandbaging. He was running a 3rd gen 'maro and ran a 14.08@79.91mph
I kinda figured the humidity had a little something to do with my lack-luster performance. I was frusterated with my traps and dissapointed/embarrassed with my times (not that the two directly coralate with each other). I'd be content with a low 14 sec car....(for now) stupid 60'
I'm not sure I will be able to go next week... however I'm pretty sure two weeks from now I'm good (the job thing keeps getting in the way). I'll admit I'm hooked! 10 bucks has never went so far. As for the speed I guess the saying of "you can never have enough" holds true. 13sec GTP.... I'll see you around! Get that car fixed!
