Rim/Tires Questions, see here, please..

Hello. My car is a daily driver, and I want to keep it that way. Anyways, I have 17x9's all around wrapped in 27540zr17's. I found some chrome 17x11 ZR1 rims I'll be getting, and wrapping in 315's. Right now, my car will break traction at 40mph on a dry road. I've even slipped a little changing lanes at 70 with slightly wet roads. my 60' at the track stinks. I have on order some Nitto 245 50zr16's for the track only on some salad shooters. Will that help my 60' at the track? How about as a daily driver, should I or should I not get 315's for the rear? Suggestions please, thanks.

A friend of mine uses the BFG 315 35R 17's on his 2002 Z06 Corvette and regularly cuts 1.7 sixty foor times with no suspension work. He also drives his car to and from the track with no problem.

Are there any fit problems with 315's? Will I have to shave my rear calipers down? Anything I should know? Any draw backs? Can I expect worse gas mileage? Thanks.

My buddy has a Z06, not a Z28. I can't imagine having to shave the calipers on 17" rims. When I dropped from the stock 16" size to 15" rims I had to do a bit of grinding.

The BFG's have very little tread and are not good on a wet surface. The Niottos are a bit better because they have twice the tread as the BFG's but essentially the same rules apply, reduced tread-reduced wet weather traction. Soft rubber=less tire life. Burnout=bald tires quickly.

These are performance oriented tires, not mud and snow items. I would get a ruler and do some measuring and call the manufacturers before you make your choice. Good luck.

Ted is right on the money.

I'm running Nitto Drag radials as my street tire and using ET Streets for the track.

P.S. You might want to check out some of the posts about sig length. The board is asking for only 5 lines - see advanced tech section, post by INJUNEER

Way too much stuff listed to be turning 13's

How the 315/35-17's fit depends on the offset of your 17x11 "ZR1" wheels.... if they are 50mm offset, the tire/wheel will be completely inside the fender line, when you look straight down from the top. That combo MAY require you to cut the corner off the jounce bumper, hammer the inner fenders a little, and possibly recenter the body with an adjustable panhard rod.

If you get the 37.5mm offset, the tire/wheel will be sticking out of the fenders a little, and most of the inner fender problems will be gone, but now you have to look at "rolling" the inner edge of the fender lip.

Using 17's will not require any modification to the calipers... they will look pathetically small showing through the larger wheels....

A personal observation, since someone mentioned my name.... on Advanced Tech we have been asking people to follow board requirements and limit their signatures to 5 lines. Once signatures go over 10 lines, we ask people to shorten them, and if they won't cooperate, either we start deleting their posts, or Chris F or Jason D (the owners) will go into your file and delete your signature. This may seem petty, but a long signature causes threads to cover endless screens and require endless scrolling. As a minimum, just include the "signature" field on the first post to a thread, and then "unclick" the signature field on future posts to the same thread.... as a courtesy to other users. This isn't my forum to moderate, so this is just my personal view.... do with it what you will..... .
