new best (bolt on)

Time to update the sig. First time ever on DR...Man what was I missing! I had a blast finally being able to stomp on the go pedal out of the hole. I tweaked the tune a little more and ended up running a best of 8.35 at 80.95 with a tad of spark retard out of the hole. 60s were 1.75-1.76 pretty consistent. There was more in it than that, but my last 2 runs with the timing reduced blew the tires off and the wife said it was time to go. Now the weird thing...
Coming home on the highway, the converter wouldnt lockup! I tried varying the throttle and shifting to nuetral but nothing seemed to work. Then after about 15 min it locked up and was fine. I noticed an odor that I assume was the converter clutch. After a hour stop for dinner with the family, the car seems to run fine...stangly even BETTER than before!?! WTF? Before the car had a 2000rpm shutter after stall install (for over 1 year!); that is gone. It even feels like I have a slightly lower stall in now, if that makes sense. Anyone have any experience on this?

What brand of TC do you have? It sounds to me like there is/was something wrong. You should never feel differences like that. Do you have an auxillary trans cooler on it?

Pull the dust cover and look athe the back of the converter. If it is blue/ black around the back edge, the converter is roached.

I do have a aux cooler. i datalog every run I make and there are no differences in the trans logs that I can tell. Even the temps are in the 92-95deg range on every pass. the converter is a xtreme trans. I know I know, Before you say "you get what you pay for", I got it for $300 shipped brand new from this board. It has worked great with over 7k miles and about 20 drag passes. I guess Ill dig out the paperwork I got with it. BTW, Ill pull the dust cover and check. Ill let you know.

The lock-up clutch in the converter is probably wasted.

Thanks for chiming in Frank. Could I actually smell the converter clutch? I thought I would be able to, but then was told it is encased in ATF (could the smell have been tranny related?). I was also told that if the converter clutch failed, it wouldnt just start working again. BTW I drove it around town today for work and errands...runs like a champ. This was from the place the stall came from...they were very helpful over the phone.
Is there a servo or valve that tells the converter to lockup? I remember reading something about being able to program it to lock up for dynos. Any chance of this servo or valve possibly sticking after going to the track (hard launches)? This was the 1st time on DRs, and also the 1st time I ever had this problem. Sorry for so many questions, I dont know much at all about transmissions. To top this all off, I am moving Friday so I have a 12 hour drive to make with it.

Hey, Im here now. No probs on the trip...car has put about about 1k miles since dragstrip, so its been driven ALOT. I was stationed in J-action-ville back in the day and used to run at coastal plains. I liked it.
