Thumbs up New Best @ Southern Shootout!

We met up Friday afternoon at Thunder Racing. It was nice to finally meet Geoff, Angie, and Jason! After checking in at the motel, we headed out to the track for some T&T action. I was anxious to see just how well the BFG DR's were going to hook. My first pass was nothing stellar since I was one of the first few cars down the track. It spun hard off of the line, I let off, and then got back on it. This resulted in an 11.90 @ 116 MPH. I made two other passes that night, and I ended up with an 11.47 @ 116.5 MPH on a 1.55 60' time. I was pumped to see the 60' time on BFG's and the added ET and MPH from the new 228/228 cam!

I got to No Problem Raceway on Saturday just in time for qualifying. My first qualifying pass was an 11.50 @ 115.5 MPH. My trans was too cold, and this resulted in hitting the rev limiter on the 2-3 shift. I qualified second to Mike's 11.34, so I skipped the second qualifying session. On my first pass of eliminations, I ran an 11.477 @ 116.2 MPH on a 1.529 60'. I was glad to see the car back up its new best from the night before. There weren't too many cars entered in SS/A, so Mike and I were in the finals by the third round. He really had his car setup! He had a shorter tire, 4.10's, and one KICKASS ram air setup! He was consistently .1 or so quicker than me throughout the day, so I knew my only way to win would be on the tree. I tried my best, but it still wasn't enough. I ran a new best of 11.41 @ 116.85 MPH on a 1.53 60' to his 11.29 @ 118.2 MPH on a 1.51 60'. I had a .601 RT vs. his .680 (.500 pro tree), so it made for an AWESOME heads-up race! I had a nose off of the line, but I watched him make it up by the 1/8th and put the nose on me by the end of the 1/4! I have video of the race, and it's great to watch. I have to agree with Gordon that it was one of the best heads-up races of the day! I lost the race by a little over .03.

It was great to meet a lot of new people and see some old faces. It was really great to see all of the late-model f-bodies competing at one event! Angie and Geoff really went all out, and this event will continue to grow every year. It was great to meet you Mike; that's one awesome car you've got! Thanks for the motivation and ideas to push a little farther.

I was VERY pleased with the results of the new 228/228 111 LSA camshaft! I set a new best by .22 and over 2 MPH! It showed a 9 RWHP increase over my old 224/224 112 LSA camshaft on the dyno, FYI. I'll get the graph up this week. The weather was very close to identical to when I ran my 11.63. My 60' dropped from my previous best of 1.588 to a 1.535 (1.529 was best of the weekend) on my 11.41 run. Feel free to shoot me an e-mail if you'd like more information on the cam.

thanks Tim! I can only imagine the questions you had; 11.0's is AWESOME from a 355 LT1! The car looked really good going down the track. It was good to see you again as well. I think just about all of us stayed pretty busy throughout the day. Needless to say, you're going to be in the 10's N/A before you know it!
