Need help with E.T
Need help with E.T
OK, Ever sence i put these 4.11's in my car i havent been impressed at all with the performance gain.
Last night at the track with:
4.11 gears, solid pinion spacer, T/A performance rear cover, bearing cap studkit, pacescetter longtube headers, 3'' cutout with 3'' corsa catback, lingenfelter CAI, 160 thermostat, slp linelock pcmforless tunning AIr pump delete and EGR valve delete plus performance tune
I ran-
Reaction: .129
60 foot: 2.056
1/8th: 8.892
1/8th mph: 80.146
1/4 E.T: 13.720
1/4 MPH: 102.448
Keep in mind the cutout is open so there isnt much backpressure to speak off and it is located after the y pipe so i dont think there is any false knock ( or is there?)
I have ( and believe this is the crutch and need advicee on how to fix it) cooper cobra 235/55/r16 tires. I do a pretty healthy burnout because it seems to work. If i dont do as long of a burnout it doenst seem to hook AS good. But i either bog out of the hole cuz i launched at like 1500 or i spin like hell and launch at 2k somthing, but occasionally i will get a good launch with riding the clutch in pretty hard, (reflecting the 2.056 60) but when i hit second i can feel the *** end get loose and i think im loosing quite a bit of time there to. I just want someone to tell me to get new tires is what it is coming down to. or the engine isn't running right. It has the original opti, new plugs and wires (NGK Tr55) and the K and N filter is brand new. Just looked for advice thanks!
p.s last year with a completly bone stock exhuast system i was running 14.3 at 97-98 mph.

Re: Need help with E.T
With 4.11s and a 6 speed your 10 bolt is on borrowed time. A good set of M/T radials or ET streets will bring you 60' down, but will probably hurt your rear. No doubt you'd benefit from a sticky tire, but at the cost of your rear. I can't remember your sig..Are you tuned for your mods?

...oops I saw you have a PCMforless tune..

Re: Need help with E.T
Last year in high 80 degree weather with basicly the same mods that you have (except I have mac mid lengths) and a 342 rear I was ran a 13.60 at 105 mph. I would say based on your mph you are down on power for some reason.
I assume that you know that your reaction time has nothing to do with the et/mph.? What was the weather like? Where do you live? Whats the altitude?

Re: Need help with E.T
yes i am aware, it was just on the timeslip and i copied it down, i live in Wisconsin and i was racing at Wisconsin international raceway in kaukauna, it was about 40 degrees and thats about all i know about the weather.
Re: Need help with E.T
that is a pretty narrow tire on there. i would try out a set of nitto drag radials. they wont be too sticky to where you are gonna break stuff, also they are much wider than what you have now. i like the nittos for a street car because they will perform like a street tire. they wont wear out too fast and you can drive with them in the rain. other drag radials like the bfg's or the m/t's are very sticky after a burnout and would definitely put a hurtin on a 10 bolt especially with the samll pinion gear of the 4.11's. 12 bolts or 9" rears are expensive but just the peace of mind on the starting line is well worth it. save money and buy a rear before any other mods to the car that way you can benefit more from other mods in the future by giving it all its got off the line. after all the first 60 feet is the best part except for if you have a big turbo car.
Re: Need help with E.T
Two things come to mind. Despite the list of stuff done, basically you have a car with exhaust, cold air, and gears.
When my car was equiped in a similiar manner I was running 13.5's and 13.6's at 100-101. You appear to have more power than I did with similiar mods.
With that as a backdrop, the sixty foot time needs to drop. Probably tires are the best way to accomplish this task.
Until you have traction and a solid launch you really can't quantify the performance except in the terms of 102 mph which in my opinion should be good for 13.4's.
However, sixty foot improvement alone won't get you there.
Please don't take this the wrong way but I think you need to work on your shifting. MPH is about power and ET is about shifting, in a manual transmission car. Shift point selection and fast shifts are the key to improving your ET once you have traction.

Re: Need help with E.T
Sweet thanks for the input I agree that i need to work on my shifting as well as my shift points. I was wondering how well a shift light would help me? And what about a shorter throw shift?
Re: Need help with E.T
You Need TIRE! If you dont care about breakin stuff, then get some M/T DR's and have at it. They are on my car and hook damn good w/ a good burnout (which isnt a problem in this car). Ive had mine like 3-4 months and ive been to the track 2 times, totalling about 8 passes at an 1/8th mile track. The tread is gettin thin on them,so if you want to drive alot on some DR's...these ARENT the ones to buy.
A short throw shifter will help make faster shifts, and yes,a shiftlight should help make more consistant shifts.

Re: Need help with E.T
My 2 cents... everyone says tires but Im going to say practice the shifting. You have another 2 tenths just in driving, IMO. Just for comparision, look at my 1/8 times in sig. My 60s are 2.1s. I have the same basic engine setup ytou do, but Im an auto (stock stall and 3.23s)
