Smile Chassis tricks to maximize traction?

Hey all,

I'm prepping my car for a contest that's a lot like drag racing, but with a couple of important differences -
* First off, it's not on asphalt, pavement or concrete - think of a washboard road, & you'll be fairly close.

* Second, it's a standing mile, rather than just a quarter, and I'm going to need help with traction over the entire distance, as I should be putting down somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 lb/ft or so - and I have to use skinny tires (about 5" wide) so needless to say, I really need every trick possible to get the most out of what I have.
Now I'm already getting help with the tire side of the equation, so what I'd like to find out is:
* What setup tips can I use with the chassis to plant every possible bit of power?

* What parts help you to hook? (What'll give me the best return for the money spent?)

* What tricks can I use - and still retain good handling? (Speeds at the top end are going to range from 130 to 160 mph.)
Thanks in advance guys!

I'm not sure bro, but you might wanna check the auto-x forum--there's some open road/road track guys in there that would probably know. Or ask Intimid8 (sp?) . He ran his turbo lt1 in the standing mile at like 199.xx. He ought to have a few tricks. Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply Ian, I've given that a shot as well.

Unhappy Re: Chassis tricks to maximize traction?

I've gotta say that I am absolutely amazed that nobody's chimed in with anything - with all of the people on this board, doesn't anyone have any suggestions besides "get good tires" & "disconnect the swaybar"?

It's mostly because we don't know what will work in your situation. What works for us on the drag strip may not do squat for you. sorry.

i would start with lower control arms and an adjustable torque arm. most people say setting the pinion angle at -2 degrees is a good place to start. then do some testing to see what works best for you.

Yeah, I can totally understand that - I guess what I was looking for was something like Toby's response, i.e. "Here's what works for us, try this as a starting point..."-kind of thing. I'm asking because I have a little bit of money to spend on suspension stuff, but want to make sure I'm putting it in the right place.

Thanks to both of you!
