Arrow Need advice to upgrade suspension to launch better

My 93 Firebird Formula has most common bolt on mods. I am currently running low 13's with 1.8 60 foot times. I drive the car regularly on the street, and my wifes drives it also. I have a hi-stall speed convertor, 3.73's, and Nitto DR's. I have to launch at low RPM's and depending on track conditions even not mash the gas hard until I am rolling a bit. Otherwise I spin too much. I have to start upgrading the suspension, and need help deciding what way I can best spend my limited resources. What have you guys seen the best results from? I am thinking torque arm, or new lower control arms with relocation brackets. Anyone have any insight? I would prefer to keep the sway bar if the wife will be driving.

Before I spent any money on suspension I'd put some tires under that thing. Then I would probably say go with some tubular LCA's. I have a pair of Hoosier QTP's 26x11.5x15 that only have around 15 passes on them and I sell them for $300 shipped.

Yep tires. Et streets work well. You may not have to spend a dime on the suspension.

Good advice. If the ET's don't get the job done, which they probably will, get a good adjustable torque arm. And if you or a friend can weld, just box your stock control arms.

last fall i read alot of posts that claimed bmr lca's and panhard would get the job done along with drag radials. torque arm and sub frame connectors also could help. just my 2 cents worth.

Before I even took my car to the track the first thing I did was SFC and slicks. All the suspension work came later.

There are people here who have cut very low sixty foot times on drag radials, but often with the help of suspension parts.

Et Streets are a good thing to have. My times became far more consistent after getting them and they hook significantly better than drag radials.

Losing the sway bar and putting on some adjustable shocks so they can be loosened at the track and tightened for the street is another good thing.

The catch to weight transfer is that it involves tires, shocks, springs, the torque arm, subframes, and other pieces as well. These components need to work together as a group to provide a good launch.

My hunch is the closest thing to a "silver bullet" is tires, then go for shocks, sway bar, and skinnies.

BTW: I still have a stock torque arm although that may change in the near future. I don't even have subframe connectors, or relocation brackets... But I do have a welded six point bar...

tnthub is right about the drag radials. We've cut 1.31 sixties on them. If your serious about upgrading your suspension call MADMAN.

For suspension I'd say SFC, LCA and relocation brackets. Obviously the slicks will work best though.

LCA relocation brackets will help. But if you want to flat out hook you really should think about some bigger tires.

If i were you i would get better suspension.

I have a 95 hawk (billstien suspension) with 275 wide nittos. It has new TQ arm, BMR LCA's, LCA brackets, SLP subframe, and BMR panhard rod.

The thing dynoed at 348 rwhp and i cant even spin the tires at all. It will barely chirp 2nd and it can only spin in 1st if i gun it from a roll over 25. BTW i havent dropped the clutch due to the 10 bolt.

I am a FIRM believer that suspension mods help more than anything.
