NA A3 Guys / 28's,27's or 26's tire sizes ?
Hey Guys,
I was wondering what size tire did most of you run your best et on? 28 ET Drags , 27 QTP's ,or 26 QTP or ET Street ? I have a TH350 with a 4000-4500 TCI 8 inch converter .Right now I'm using 28's and I belive it's killing my 4.10 and my bottom end in my 93 Z. I went to the track the other day and ran a bunch of 11.6's/ 116-117 mph. Plus, do most of you run 93 octane or Cam2 (110 or 100 )? I know Cam2 is only nessecary if your car has a knock or something going on. Thanks in advance ,guys

I run 26 inch M/T ET streets and I cannot lean on it real hard off the line or they spin. my regular 60 foots are in the 1.7 range because of this. I know I could do some more suspension mods and get it lower and probably hook better, but I think the 28 inch would better suit me, I run 11.9s @ 115 mph.

I have a 700R4 and 3.73's. On 26" tall ET Streets I was cutting mid 1.5 sixty foot times with a 3600 stall. Because I started dipping into the 11's on a regula basis, I went up to a 28" tire and my sixty foot times rose by about a tenth... 1.62-1.64... MPH went from 108 to 109 on average, and ET's rose from 11.8's to 12.0's. Perfect for street class where 12.00 is the cutoff.
I like the taller sidewall because I can hook up on almost any surface.

I'm running a 26/11.50 and a 373 rear gear. Looking at your mph and et, it depends how hard you want to push the car through the 1/4 mile. With 373's I'm usually sitting on about 6000rpms through the 1/4. With a 4.10 gear in your car and your mph, I guess you should be around 6500rpm's or so with a 26" tire. As far as pump gas or race fuel goes, unless you're over say 11:1 compression, I would stay with 93 octane. No need for 110 octane with low compression. Plus, gas is high enough as it is without having to pay for race gas

What's up Mac? I run the 27 QTP's and had a 1.54 60ft last weekend. I didn't get chance to run through the 1/4 since I was at an 1/8 mile track. I'm going to rockingham this weekend so I'll keep you posted.

.If I could 60ft like you ,I would probably run an 11.3 or 11.2 easy. I see a pair of 27' QTP's on order for me very, very soon. Please keep me posted about this upcoming weekend.

26" the 28"/4.10 is like running a 26/3.73 combo, loosing all the benefit at the tree. If you need less RPM on the top end then go to 27s but hard to know b/c I dont know what RPM you want to cross at and how much slip the TC has up there.
I would try a set of 26's first and go from there. N/A you should be good with 26's.

I would choose based on the overall drive ratio between 26, 27, or a 28" tire. There doesn't seem to be a huge difference in traction between them. In theory, the larger diameter will have better grip due to the taller sidweall and shape of the contact patch.
I 60' the same with a QTP 26 v. a 27" and am using the 27" to get a taller drive ratio and avoid hitting the redline. 28" seems like too tight a fit to me, though I know that many people use them.
