Launching a LS1/T56 on DRs & NOS w/ factory 10 bolt. Bad Idea??

Just what it says. I have shorties, factory Y, LM exhaust, and that's it. I'm going to be spraying a 125hp shot of the jug and putting DR's on, and was wandering how to launch it without sacrificing my rear. You guys may have seen my story in the Kill Stories section, and I'm trying to practice on my launch. My best buddy Allyn (RiceKiller87) said he had seen a guy with an LT1/T56 launching his car on DR's at 5K RPMs and pre-loading the rear at the line, as to be a little easier on moving parts inside. Makes sense but... this is an LS1 with a hefty shot of juice, and I'm very nervous about it. My stunt double is having issues with his car running rich/lean with his cam and is second guessing his partaking in running his beast. Therefore, his juice will probly see my LS1 for a weekend. Alrite, let me get back on subject, am I going to be ok launching on the upwards of 4-5K RPM's off the line preloading the rear? Has anyone done this? I'm practically going to be shooting off the line, so what am I in for fellas? Let's hear it, good, bad, and the ugly, I want everyone's opinion!

Something will break if you do it very often. Maybe the first time, maybe the hundredth.

if i were you i would slip the clutch off the line, just get it moving then stomp it. the DR's will help a ton even if you dont dump the clutch from 4k. i would just feather it and as soon as the clutch is all the way out hammer it, then i would wait till you get to 2nd and arm the nitrous and when you go to WOT then go. i wouldnt spray off the line, especially with no window switch but thats me. good luck, hope everything goes well.

Grab up a delay box and use a few tenths delay on the nitrous hit. You can launch really hard and put quite a bit of power thru a 10 bolt but you can't shock it or you'll bust it.

Well, I had thought to pre-load the rear with my e-brake, already halfway leaning on the clutch, as not to - as Al said - "shock" the rear. That way, I can lean on it, just as you would a converter, drop the e-brake and at the same time slip the rest of the clutch out, about 35000-4000RPM (where I had previously planned to). So basically, once I've dropped the brake and stepped out of my holeshot, my right pedal will be on the floor.

But then there's the question of the nitrous. Whether I hit in 1st or 2nd, when I go to shift gears while it's being fed, it's still going to "shock" the rear. So my question of this is... will my rear even handle a 125 shot and DR's between powershifts??? Any experience??? Any he said-she said??? Anything??? I'm all ears, let's hear everything...

That's the exact reason I have a window switch. I have it programmed to come on at 3000 rpms, and cut off at 5900 rpms. I spray a 100 shot with dr's. with out the shot I can't roast my dr's off the line if I dump, so I wouldn't think about doing it while spraying. You will sit there and spin I think and if you don't it'll be because you just shot your rear end out of the back of the car. Spraying between shift and possibly hitting rev limiter was also antoher reason I went with the window switch. Good luck

I launch mine from 4k so it spins, i always ride the clutch out too, i only cut 2.0's but it keeps the car from bogging and keeps my rear happy, ive done this like 30 times at the track so far.
