I'm in the 10s!!!

err oh yeah... in the 1/8th :P

Last night was my first time actually racing the IROC.

It's an 87 G92/LB9 with a 305 worked over by the previous owner 49,000 miles ago. 700R4, posi rear with 2.73 highway gears. It has 149,xxx miles on it, all smog and a/c parts still there although not working, full interior, and t-tops.

She has an exhaust leak at the header, the rear has junkyard parts because I wanted to get it back on the road ASAP, and I had to back off the gas in order to get it to shift into 3rd. Oh yeah, this was with 8" wide non-rated touring tires and no burnouts.

First run, unfamiliar with where I need to put the car to pre-stage and stage so I roll through, back up, wait for the lights and pull this disgrace for a run:

1st:
R/T - 1.3030
60ft - 2.3451
594 - 9.8029
1/8 ET - 10.4579
1/8 MPH - 68.71

Next run:

R/T - .7779
60ft - 2.4071
594 - 9.7843
1/8 ET - 10.43
1/8 MPH - 68.63

Ok, so my R/T drops over half a second and my 60" goes up? traction, traction, where art thou?

I park her and work on the Parkland College Motorsports car for a bit, don't get to drive because I haven't really worked on it in over nine months but decent people to shoot the **** with.

3rd run:
R/T - .7691
60ft - 2.3539
594 - 9.5618
1/8 ET - 10.2039
1/8 MPH - 70.08

I head right back up to the line. I do my run and for some reason the car felt like it was bogging, it ran like total ***. I did get my best R/T of the night though.

4th:
R/T - .6289
60ft - 2.5622
594 - 11.4560
1/8 ET - 12.2660
1/8 MPH - 55.55

I pulled back into my spot after the 4th and I popped the hood looking to see if I'd mangled anything. All looks status quo so I let her sit for a bit, then I get the itch again so back to the line.

5th:
R/T - .7990
60ft - 2.3320
594 - 9.6188
1/8 ET - 10.2721
1/8 MPH - 68.88

That was my second 10.2x run for the night and I was having a blast. I thought I had the shifting figured out (It still wouldn't hit 3rd in WOT and I tagged 6500rpm before I backed off of the tired 305 with amazement that she held together so well) so I headed back up to the line. 3 and a half minutes later I go blast off again for my best ET and 60ft of the night.

best:
R/T - .8100
60ft - 2.2118
594 - 9.5000
1/8 ET - 10.1509
1/8 MPH - 69.13

I had 2 other runs but both of them were somewhere in the middle as far as results.

Judging by these numbers, any guesses on what I might be running in the 1/4 mile? I can tell that I need traction bad but do any of you have suggestions on where else I should improve? I know my R/Ts need to get better and much more consistant...

Goals for this weekend are to get my tranny shifting right, it sounds to me like my cables aren't adjusted properly and I'm going to try dialing in my TV/kickdown cable. I also have to get my idle speed set correctly (because of the aftermarket cam, I have to have it idle at like 1000rpm but at stop lights it will drop down to like 800, surge up, bounce down and sometimes drop enough to stall). I used the method to set it described in the tech article on thirdgen.org but I need to spend more time testing and driving with it. I also need new shocks/struts, better tires of course but I'm terrified of shredding my 10 bolt (if I break it, it'll be the third one in a YEAR).

What's a step down from DOT cheater slicks? I want better traction but I want at least a pass or two before I break something. drag radials? if so, what are my options besides Nitto? also, what is the stock tire size for the 87 IROC 16" wheels? I know they were 255s but that's all I can remember.

Thanks in advance for your answers, I'm officially an addict, I know I can't just stop... but I'm sure parts breakage will be a horrendous detox.

that's because reaction time has zero to do with any aspects of the run.

http://www.fl-thirdgen.org/quartermileconversion.html 10.15 1/8 = about a 15.8 1/4

original tire size was 245/50-16 you can put 255/50-16.
