help racing for a newbie

i just got my 74 camaro z28 up and running with a 402 engine. now i am looking to learn how to race it. if someone could give me a basic outline starting from the proper way to launch to the best way to shift (powershift?) and anything else. mostly i am looking at learning how to launch and the right shifting technique. also if my car produces the most hp at a certain rpm does that mean that i should not accelerate past that rpm when i am in my highest gear? will i loose power if i do that? thanks in advance.

There's a drag racing forum here, check that out for stuff. A quick Google search will also bring up alot of stuff.

I've wondered the same thing, but have yet to really look into. Maybe someone will answer this for both of us.

Might want to provide some additional info:
-trans type
-rear axle ratio
-tire specs

I'll move it to the Drag Racing.... forum for you.
