To determine the right gear for 1/4 miling you need to have an idea of how fast you are going to trap and at what revs your hp peaks at. In combination with the tire size, this will allow you to select a rear gear that puts you just past peak power in 4th gear (3rd if it's an auto) as you through the traps. You can also choose a different size tire, of course.
