fitting 28 inch slick with no alterations???
Re: fitting 28 inch slick with no alterations???
28x11.5-15 QTP was OK, on 15x10 7.5" BS Pro-Stars. No problems until trap speeds went over 125, and tire growth made the tires hit the front metal edge of the wheel wells. Moved the axle assembly back 1/4" and the problem went away. The wheel wells had already been clearanced for 315/35-17 BFG Drag Radials.
28x10.5-15W ET Streets were a problem. The tire wouldn't even go into the wheel well without cutting the leading edge of the bumper cover off. Ran it up to 130+ on a chassis dyno and ended up cutting the bumper cover back about 1.5" at the bottom, and hammering back the point of the metal fender that is behind the bumper cover. I never measured the ET Streets, but they appear to be much larger than that 28.1" the M/T shows in their tire size tables.

Hell, I've got 30x9 Hoosier radial slicks on 15x8 wheels and 5.5 BS and all I had to do was trim a inch or to off the bumper cover. I have at least 1/2 inch of clearence all the way around and since there radials they don't grow.

Hoosier and M/T measure there tires differently since I compared tires from my '69 Camaro and what's on my '94.
I took a tape measure and measured my 28x10.5x15 Hoosier Quick Time Pros and they measure from side wall to side wall and measure what they are saying. When I measured the top contact patch they are smaller.
I measured my 28x10.5x15 M/T ET Drags from side wall to side wall and they are definitely larger. I measured the top contact patch and that is the correct dimension as they are stating on the tire.
You can also visually see the M/T ET Drags are a lot bigger when you put them side to side.
For me to fit my 28x10.5x15 M/T ET Drags I had to cut the back part of the bumper cover and metal behind the tire and also removed the snubber from the wheel well and cut the mount that it goes to as well. I also had to pound on the front inner wheel well too since it rubbed there as well for more clearance. I also ended up regraphing the cut off bumper section and repainted the whole bumper cover so you can't even tell I cut anything and still looks stock but now have the clearance for the 28's
