Question Biggest BFG DR's without cutting or hammering?

I tried to do a search on this but didn't get anything. I know this has probably been brought up before. Sorry for any repeat.

What is the largest BFG DR that will go in the wheel well of a 4th Gen T/A without cutting or hammering anything? BFG's P325/50R-15 is listed at 27.9" diameter. Will this work? Or is it too tall or too wide (or both)? I know I'll be using a 15" wheel, probably 10" wide.

I'll be driving these on the street somewhat, so I don't want to use the Hoosier QTP's or ET Streets. I've had a few sets of 16" BFG DR's and liked them.

TIA

That's a pretty big tire... the spec sheet show it at a 13.0" section width, along with the 27.9" diameter. By comparison, I ran 28x11.5-15 QTP's that were 11.2" section and 28.0" diameter. The width was no problem, with 15x10 7.5" BS wheels. But the diameter was large enough that at 125mph trap speeds it would grow enough to start hitting the sheet metal at the front of the wheel opening.

I switched to 28x10.5-15W ET Drags and they are listed at 13.1" section width, and took extensive hammering of the inner wheel wells.... and even though the diameter was only listed at 28.1", I've had to take more than 1" off the rubber bumper cover to keep it away from the tires, and that's only standing still. Haven't run it at the track yet.

Figure the 315/35-17 DR's (my street tires) are 12.4" sect. width, and on 17x11's took some hammering.

Gonna be tight.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I want to find the biggest tire (width and height) to use without cutting or hammering. I suppose a little work on the lip of the wheel well wouldn't be too bad if it was a nice job, but I don't want to start hammering on the inner well. I didn't know if the 325's would work or not, which is why I asked. Doesn't sound like they will without some "alterations" I tried BFG's web site to see what the next smaller size was, but their site isn't working right.

325 wont fit without hammering the innew well.

275/50 or 275/60-15's are your best bet.

But then again....Dirk likes to beat, hammer, and cut...LOL

Oh yea...He likes to go fast, too.

325/50 will fit with a Weld XP 6.5 BS 10 inch wheel,I have them for my car, they fit well. Has not been run yet. Buddy has same setup with Centerline Warriors, he runs them all the time. Brady at one point had a 325/50 on a 8 inch Weld wheel. Would set them on FIRE from a 40MPH roll on, I saw him do it, laughed my *** off. 325's will fit.

325/50/15 BFG's on 15x8" prostars with 5.5" of backspacing fit pretty good. I had to roll the fenderwell a little bit (using the louisville slugger method, I rolled Matt/SLOMOFO's and mine in just a few minutes (as directed by Jeff HotRodHawk)).

When I put the 325s' on 10" wheels w/7.5" backspacing, I had to do significant hammering on the inner fender.

When I put 315/60's on the car I had to get mid-evil..

Re: Biggest BFG DR's without cutting or hammering?

sorry to bring this up from the dead, but i am looking into the 315/60/15 and want to know if i can still keep all of my stock suspension mounting points? I don't mind if the springs have to go bye-bye because i am switching over to coil overs, but i don't want to have to pay a shop to make new lca brackes or something along that line. I don't care if i have to cut up the wheel wells. If someone can post some pics and give me some info I would be very thankful.

WHy do you need so much tire? Guys here run low 1.30 sixty foots on stock suspension cars with a 325/50. 315 60 will go, Brady's friend Shannon had em on his car....took some doing. Stock susp hookups can be kept, may have to narrow the rear.

Re: Biggest BFG DR's without cutting or hammering?

I think i have decided to go ahead and just run the 325/50. I was really just looking for the look of the 315/60, but have decided thats its not really worth it in the long run.

Re: Biggest BFG DR's without cutting or hammering?

I have some experience here as well.

I've run these combo's on a '96 Camaro...

All Weld Pro Star rims.

15x8 5.5" BS (stick out a little too far, but fit under the fenders at stock height with 26x11.5-15 ET Street.

15x10 7.5" BS with 26x11.5-15 ET Street
15x10 7.5" BS with 28x11.5-15 ET Street
15x8 5.5" BS with 26x10-15 ET Drag
15x10 7.5" BS with 275-50-15 BFG DR (26")
15x10 7.5" BS with 275-60-15 BFG DR (28")

When I stepped up to the 10" wide rim I had to clearance the inner fender wells, cut the bump stop off, etc. When I went to the 28" BFG and ET's I had to trim the rear bumper and more hammering the inner fender.

The 275-50-16 BFG is much wider then the 275-60-15 BFG and still plenty of sidewall. I ran the 28's to keep rpm down with my 4.10's and then upgraded to 4.30 gears in my Moser 9".

I am replacing them with 28x10.5-15 ET Drag Stiff and 275-50-15 ET Street Radials for the street.

The wider DR's really look much better on the car, and running 26" street tires keeps the rake look down.

I had always wanted to step up to the 325-50-15 (28" tall I believe) but that would just be for looks, as the car just won't hook on the street anyways.

Definitely need an APHR to locate the rearend properly too.

Has anyone run Weld 15x10 with a 7" BS and seen how they fit? I think the 5.5" BS on the 8" rim makes it stick too far out. But the 7.5" BS on the 10" rim makes them stick in too far...
