Baxter's back - 8-sec pass on the 30th SS
Went to Maple Grove yesterday with George, for the initial shakedown runs on the latest version of his 30th SS convertible. Crowded, only got in 3 passes, trying to dial in the Spohn suspension. The only complete pass was an 8.766@160.3mph. It's got a bit more in it
.
383 SBC 1 with a Vortech S/C, w/ specs to run the PRO/Edelbrock Xtreme Street class. Stock style suspension.

Obviously awesome, so "hats off". I understand the class he's in, but it's somewhere I wouldn't want to go. Too many compromises in making a street car into a race car. So, I was more impressed back "in the beginning" when his car was very, very fast but still (at least in a nominal sense) a street car.
Anyway, thanks for the update. Also a couple of questions: what is his displacement and which blower is he running?

He has paid the non-refundable $500 entry fee for the Outlaw class at the ls1tech.com North vs. South Shootout at US41 in Indiana in June. Also plans to run the PRO/Edelbrock Xtreme Street class at Atco (NJ) in May 21-23.
Car no longer uses the LT1 block. 383 built on a Dart Iron Eagle block. Blower is a Vortech but the size is not clear. Heads are Brodix 23deg (limted by class). Fuel injection by MoTeC. Ignition is direct fire off the MoTeC, using LS1-style coils. TH400, 9-inch. Engine by Second Street Speed, Perkasie PA. Suspension by Spohn Performance. Wheels by Bogart, with assistance of SJM Manufacturing. Race weight was 3,530# on the Maple Grove scale.
There are pictures of the car on:

I was taking videos, but the main purpose was the tire/suspension response on launch, so its not a lot to see.... tire wrinkles, body lifts, tail end of the car disappears down the track - then the mph/et on the timing board. I'm trying to get it transferred to the server.

That's awesome, I wish I would have known he was going to be running at the Grove Sat, I would have gone just to see that! I was running at the AIS shootout on Sat at Cecil County Dragway instead.
George,
Congratulations on your car and times...I thought you dropped off the face of the earth.
Your always puttting down some real impressive numbers, i'm sure there is much more in your setup.
Good luck!
Steve
