Thumbs down Another 10 Bolt goes bye bye!!! And the quest for 11's is over!!

Well my quest for 11's with a Hot Cam has come to a close. My car simply will not make it there.. I ran 12.30 @ 108 with my Hot Cam on stock heads. Now with my GTP's stage 2 heads I ran a best of 12.27 @ 109 MPH. Yesterday I got 3 solid runs in on a cool nice day. I ran 12.30 @ 111.11 on a 1.61. The car is gaining great trap speeds but just will not get down the track quicker. I think maybe the heads are just too big for the hot cam. Oh well it doesn't matter now. On my 4th attempt I launched the car hard but it hazed the tires out of the hole. I pedled the throttle then matted it again past the 60' & it hit hard then kaboom!!!! Something went in the rear..... Nice tow home & tomorrow I will find out what really failed.... I think my Eaton Diff is probably the culprit. I have nearly 250 runs on it but only about 50 with ET Streets... It is time to retire from the drag strip. I cannot afford to pay the consequences of racing.

Just thought I would share my dimise with you's...
Shoulda got an LS1!!!

Hey bud- just a few thoughts.

1. Take a break, you'll probably end up readoing the rear and gettin back to enjoying your hard work. Cars break. That is life.
I've had friends wreck their cars, consider selling and retiring...only to come back stronger after they cooled down.

2. An LS1 wouldn't be any easier on a 10 bolt, if you were givin her a hard launch on a tire. So don't be so quick to discredit your motor.

Good luck!

Thanks. I am definately gonna take a mandatory break. (Wife is pregnant) I will never sell the car. I just really wanted that 11 second slip. Breaking the rear end wasn't really a big deal to me. It more or less was the fact the car won't get down the track any quicker with the addition of the heads. I have a few Ideas to where I am struggling but those Ideas take $$$$ I don't have expendable right now. Same old crap I guess.. Car is mine since 1994 (NEW) & will be for a long time to come.

You and I are wanting the same thing, 11s with a hot cam. I am there on a good cold day. You can get there as well. I do not know much about your set up but you can get it there.

How much does it weigh? THe best thing i ever did was get the weight out of the car. i still think my 3450ish is too heavy...

Keep working on it...I know how frustrating it is. Taking that break is a good idea. I finally got back to the track and you can see how well the break was for me...

Ouch!, That sucks. That 11's time slip with the HotCam takes a good hooking track and some great weather. That's the only way I was able to get mine.

Now if you get that 12-bolt you better up the power level, that 12-bolt is going to take some more HP to turn. So far (knock, knock on wood) my 10-bolt is taking the punishment. And I have increase the power in my car. I know the next step is eventually the 12-bolt setup just for the fact that it can take the punishment. The 10-bolt is almost like a time bomb, eventually it will go out.

Take some time off and get back at it.

I think your car is running well but you have to consider a couple things. Going fast is all about weight which our cars are heavy, horsepower, tuning and combination. I think you need to dynotune it and take some weight out of the car. I should have dynotuned my motor before I switched cams. I haven't dynotuned my new setup yet either but I am not going much faster either and I have a much more agressive cam but my torque converter is way off right now too so I have alot of work left to do to get into the 11's too N/A.

Thumbs up

Thanks Guys. It just really sucks that I ran consistant 12.3's with just a Hot Cam then I add the GTP Stage 2's & I still only run 12.30's. However my MPH is up cosistantly 3mph... 108's to 111's now.... My car with me weighs 3500lbs... The only other difference with the car is my 3600 stall. It is a Vigilante 3600 & I think it is inefficiant compared to the Vig 3200 I had with just the Hot Cam to achieve 12.30's... Also I have been told time & time again by a friend of mine who really know the LT1 camaro to get the car on a dyno to get it dialed in correctly.. It just is a bit much on the pockets right now to do that.

As for the rear end I had some good news. My spider gears broke in my Eaton posi so I just put in my Factory Auburn back in tonight. It should be fine for cruising around now until I get something solid back there. I am probably gonna save for a Ford 9"... Next year....

If you haven't got it dyno tuned after the heads/cam then there's an issue. And yes I would grab a ford 9" as a replacement.

I was running 12.3@108 with no WOT tuning when i was an A4 and pulled 320ish RWHP.

I added the TH350 and some other HP increasing things and only pulled 320, i was not happy but after some LT1edit work i pulled 340+ and alot more TQ down low and needless to say it is not right, i am stilll RICH at WOT. So the point is....there is a good 20+ HP and alot more TQ available in dyno tuning, i think my A4 combo could pull 350+ with some more dyno time....and that is with the HOT cam...

Your missing a couple things here. ET is not necessarily completely based on power. ET is as much driver and chassis/suspension as the powerplant that puts things in motion. Looking at your mph, you know your efforts were not in vain. Since you didn't change your cam, I'm not sure why you switched stalls. Especially to the 3600 which has been deemed inefficient a long time ago. Anytime you are beating on a stock 7.5" 10-bolt your doing so on borrowed time; thats no secret. You need to re-evaluate the entire run and the combo that you put together. Like others have already said, weight is a huge part but you've got enough power to get where you want.

I did not know this really, i think a lower stall would help my combo...but will just have to wait and see....
