Will Tuning for Nitrous effect N/A dyno numbers?
Will Tuning for Nitrous effect N/A dyno numbers?
Hi all...
Just wanted to know that if I get my car tuned on a 150 nitrous shot if it will effect my current N/A tune of 405rwhp/428rwtq...thus causing my non-nitrous numbers to go down in power...
Thanks,
TDOG

What do you mean by "tuning for nitrous"? Obviously, if the timing is now optimal and you retard it you will lose hp. Other than that, I am not sure what you mean.

I believe you answered it for me... I'm still trying to grasp the computer tuning concepts...
If I retard timing for the nitrous ... I will loose N/A HP...

Re: Will Tuning for Nitrous effect N/A dyno numbers?
I have three different programs that I regularly switch between. A "street" program for 93-94 octane. A "track" program for 100 octane unleaded, and a "nitrous" program for 104 octane race unleaded. They differ primarily in timing but also fuel. If I run the nitrous program without the nitrous it is noticibly softer.

Your intent is to deal with any knock issues due to the NOS, if that is done correctly then there would be no need to reduce timing just for the area NOS is on.
I use water/meth injection which will solve the temps and lean issues of NOS retaining higher WOT timing.

Thanks for the response...
I'm pretty sure when I originally had the car tuned that the timing was retarded but I'm not sure what my timing is...
I do have 42 lb. Bosch injectors that seem to be doing fine...
I've just picked up a Scanmaster and think that I'll be able to determine my timing via this tool... and this should tell me what the timing is from my original tune... correct...

I can't say I'm in the mood to go into a long dissertation on nitrous tuning. But I am confused by "Team ZR1" stating that you can run full timing if you "deal with any knock issues due to the NOS". This may be true if you are talking about a purpose built nitrous motor. But a 400rwhp stroker is probably not purpose built for nitrous and I would strongly advise against running with full timing.
