what type of tune do i need??

i have a bone stock 96 ss 310 hp, i want to keep the car all stock engine wise but i may add a few bolt on things here and there, i was told that with a good tune i could see about a 20-25 hp increase on a stock lt1, , is this true? and i want my fans to come on sooner since i just did the power stat so i will be sending out the pcm to get it tuned but i want to know whats the best tune for a stocker... thanks

Well, the only things that could be done would be to eliminate the CAGS stuff in the computer, maybe up the injector constant a little to lean it out all over (which would also take care of leaning out WOT a little), adjust the timing table to where it brings in timing as quick as possible to make more torque without having knock retard, and turning the fans on quicker for the 160* stat.
I would say that's about it and I would guess on a bone stock car you may pick up 10rwhp.
What kinds of mods are you thinking of making?

well since it is an ss it already has the ram air, and the 20TL, and i just added 160 stat, cags, and an air foil, the only other mod i may consider is doing 1.6rr, so my main goal woud be to try and sqeeze about 15hp out of the computer... or do you think i am better off buying a used HPP3 for about $175 or so,

If those are your only plans for the car I'd just have PCMforless do a program for it. If you've already got a laptop and feel like spending the money, buy LT1 Edit and mess around with it a little.
For my money, I'd definitely stay away from the HPP3 when PCMforless can do the same things as you can do with the HPP plus the tuning will be better...and the price is the same.

BTW, I am in no way affiliated with PCMforless....I just think for $175 Brian will beat the pants off of the HPP3!
