tunercats no longer available....

TC sold Tunercat for $100.00?
The reason I bought tunercat in the first place was because spending 500 bucks on LT1edit was ridiculous to me. I didn't mind giving them what they wanted for the price because I thought it was worth it. I've had people ask for def files and I never gave them out.
What did Jet do to the Tunercat program to be able to justify adding 400 dollars to the sale price?
I'm glad I got my TC years ago.

So if JET added $400.00 to the price, then that means you bought TunerCat OBDII for $100.00. Wow! That does sound like a really good deal!
I thought TC OBDII sold for around $379.00 with one def file, with each def file around $70.00 or $80.00 dollars each.
Since JET Gas DST is selling at around $500.00 with all def files included, seems like that is more than comparable.
BTW, I have TC OBDII with all the def files, and it cost over $1400.00 for all of this, so I know my price points are right.

You do know this is about TC OBDII, Right?
with tuner cats no longer available which tuning software would you suggest? i have a 97 lt1 with OBD2.
i have a computer, i can get the wideband sensors....i just need the dang'd software. i wanted tuner cats but....they sold out to jet performance chips.
i'd like to be able to use this software on multiple vehicles so lt1 edit is out. i dont know of any others out there that can do what i want.
so....what do i want?

Slimdawson:
You do know this post and replies is about TunerCat OBDII, and not the Tuner software (for OBDI), right? This is about OBDII vehicles ('96 and up), not older than that.
You signature indicates an earlier F body that uses OBDI, not OBDII......

i'll be going to obd1 and running TC software. hopefully they havent sold out to jet on the older programming yet....if they have i'll have to do my tuning illegally. i dont want to but i'll resort to it if i have to pay 500 for an interface program.

Yep, I bought OBD2 Tunercat for $379.99. That includes the cable, whereas the OBD1 stuff does not. It is still a price increase, though I thought the price increase was reasonable given the effort. Tunercat still has the OBD1 stuff - I don't think that's going anywhere.

The message was for Slimdawson, not you!

The reply post was for Slimdawson:
Severous01, I know what you have posted!
I agree with your solution. I think it's a great option for folks that want to go that route, and if their vehicle can do it and pass emissions (if they have to), why not!
I'm all about saving money too. The bottom line is we are all looking to increase our vehicle's performance and if you are like me, I don't have money to throw away!
I'm just trying to clarify a few points as this thread goes on. I believe some folks are not following this thread from the start and are just venting their spleen. TunerCat OBDII was never sold for $100.00! I think you and I both know that.........

Honestly I haven't done much with OBD2 stuff. I just converted back from OBD1 as soon as TC released their OBD2 stuff for the LT1 this June.
When I was OBD1, after a couple of dyno sessions with the wideband, I had the AFR dialed in to 13.0:1. With the mods listed in my sig except on the stock shortblock, it made 375 rwhp @ 6000 rpm on a Dynojet. Since then I've built a low CR forged stroker in preparation for a Vortech T-trim and changed back to my original 96 pcm. Just went to the dyno on Friday for a few quick pulls with the probably-now-undercammed 383 and it pulled 337 rwhp @ 5600 rpm on a Mustang dyno. I had taken a conservative stab at modifying my PE tables and I was good up to 4500 rpm - then the AFR nosedived to 11.5 and stayed below 12 up to 6000 rpm.
To give a basis for comparison on the Mustang dyno, a friend just bought an 05 GTO A4 LS2 and it put down 328 rwhp bone stock. Impressive to say the least.
One thing I have never figured out is how to get rid of cam surge. I've still got a little even with the small-ish cam in the 383 around 1400 rpm. I think most people say advance timing but how much? It is such a PITA to drive it, reflash it, drive it some more. I wish someone would release a real-time tuner for the LT1. Like they now have for the L98 and LS1. LT1 - the engine that time forgot.

i have always had good luck tuning out cam surge by reducing the timing in those areas, seems a large cam and the cruising range where your not on the throttle much(higher vacuum) have a lot of timing in the factory tables
i have done several lt4 hotcam and 503 and 306 cams this way

My car has a 96 LT1 but I converted to OBDI to escape LT1edit's price.
