Hi, I'm new here and my mechanic just informed me my '97 with 5.7 engine's computer won't let him access the database to find out why the light is on. The car is running fine. The light just came on while I was on the highway... any ideas greatly appreciated!

Have them check the fuses, on my car the cig lighter fuse also powers the DLC. Welcome to the board.

It WAS the fuse, and then the mechanic got an 1870 code, so it's that tranny valve...

Hey, you were a big part of making my day a lot better, believe me.
I called a tranny guy, we talked on his cell in his truck on the road in the rain, and he said, "1870 code? Just a valve, not 700 bux for a rebuilt....I love it when that happens...thanks again.
