To my knowledge, the ScanMaster will not work on the 1993.

Are you aware you do not need a scanner to retrieve DTC codes from your 93? Or are you looking for more than diagnostics?

On the hardware side, for a scanner that can retrieve sensor values, and ECM command values, Auto Xray is about the cheapest around.

For software, I am pretty sure there is a 93 version of TTS DataMaster. You can download free and use the software 20 times before they ask you to pay for it. Just need the correct cable. And I believe FreeScan claims their free download software will work on 93's but I've seen some people run into problems.

How do I get codes without a scanner?

Main reason I ask is something is up with the car and the "Pepboys" scanner I have doesnt' pic much up.

On 93's ONLY:

-turn key to "off".

-short pins A and B on the ALDL connector (B is the data pin, tan wire, A is a ground - I think these are the top row, rightmost pins..... check though)

-turn key to "on", do not start engine

-SES light will flash one flash-pause-two flashes ("12" indicates ECM is in diagnostic mode) Will repeat this pattern 2 more times.

-Trouble codes will then be flashed, each pattern showing up three time..... example: 3 flashes-pause- 4 flashes = DTC 34 = MAP sensor voltage low.

Some places sell a keychain with a "forked" end on it, that will short the two pins. You can also buy a cheap Actron brand scanner for about $30, but all it does is short the pins... a paper clip is cheaper. Surprised Pep Boys can't figure it out......

Wink

Oh ok, I have that Actron Scanner but it does code "12" each time.
I'm getting 145 miles to a tank of gas, when I should be getting around 200. So something has got to be wrong. (wondering if its the Fastchip or the 52mm Throttle body)
