Retrieving codes after OBD2-OBD1 swap?

How do you guys that have done the swap retrive codes for SES lights? I went to autozone yesterday to get the code read and the OBD2 scanner didnt work ofcourse. He instead gave me some metal key I was suppossed to use to get the lights on the dash to flash?

Anyone know what to do?

You need to use an OBD-I scanner. Unless you happened to swap in a speed-density 1993 ECM (unlikely), the "short the pins" method will not work for pulling the DTC codes. You can look at the Auto Xray, ScanMaster or the "real" Actron (not the $30 short the pin unit) OBD-I scanners, or software like TTS DataMaster, FreeScan or Diacom.

Try this link.... a lot of the links are outdated because they change so often, but it might get you started in the right direction.

Thats what I thought Fred. As usual the guys at autozone have no idea what they are talking about, and no it isnt a 93 PCM.

Thanks for that link. Ill have to check it out.

some of the 95 cars have the OBD1 computer but have the OBD2 ALDL port. I use scanmaster and freescan to scan my car. Diacom will also work.
