Project '99 SS threw two codes today - help?
Before I start changing parts, anyone have input on these two codes?
P0161 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 2)
P0327 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Low Input (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)
I am new to OBDII, most I dealt with my OBDI cars was cleaning the MAF.
Thanks!
Tom

161 is probably a wiring issue or the sensor itself. If you have to remove the intake to replace the knock sensor I'd replace both, along with the harness.

Remove the intake?? The knock sensor is inside the engine? That doesnt
sound like fun at all. When I clear the codes, they stay gone for a couple
of days and then come back again. Would that mean anything?
Thanks for your reply!!

Don't know why they keep coming back, except that the issue is still there and takes a few ignition cycles to throw the codes again. There are 2 knock sensors, both under the intake. Removing the intake isn't that bad, you can use the LS6 intake swap guide on www.ls1howto.com and ignore what you don't need. It also shows pics of the knock sensors/harness with the intake removed.
P0161 sets when the PCM doesn't see the cat's activity pick up in the time it would normally take with the heater operating (cold sensors don't work). Could be the wiring, or could be the sensor. One way to check is to swap the two after-cat sensors side-to-side. If the code follows the sensor to Bank 1 (P0155) its a sensor problem. If the code stays on Bank 2, its a wiring problem.
Knock sensor on an LS1 is fun... hard to get to. And I believe it may take a special tool to remove it.

Yah, I was reading that after I posted my question, looks like the knock
sensor doesnt need a special tool, but there are two and under the intake.
Bummer. The car runs fine still, but I guess its probably not making much
power right now. Worth a try on the O2 sensors, but perhaps at 131k it
might be time to just start fresh? I dont think that the plugs have ever
been changed either. This was bought as a replacement for my wifes '95
Z28 when we were forced off the freeway by an SUV.
The first owner of the car put some money into it, the second owner just
kinda drove it, as things broke. Thanks for the links/info!
