Programming my 94 z
Programming my 94 z
Ok guys, this is the place where i know i will get the best Info...
Right now I have a mostly Bolt-On modded Z28 (mods in sig)
However, my winter project is to add a Hotcam kit, headers, better plugs and plug wires and maybe a 3.23 or 3.42 gear.
I'm currently running a HPP III and i'm starting to realize it has minimal programming options when it comes to bigger mods.
Now here's my question...
Should I get rid of the HPP and go with a more custom tuned setup? I'm sure the answer to this will be yes, so which setup should i go with? Pease keep in mind I'm a college student and money is an issue. I'm willing to pay for a god setup but it has to be reasonable. Thanx for reading and for the help, peace.

Well, I guess it depends. First off, I'd say ditch the HPP right now. Sell it on Ebay, I got over $200 on a HPP original (yes, the very first one ever), so I can image you getting more than than for your HPP3. For $200, you should be able to do one of two things with ease.
First, do you want to take the time to learn everything in order to do your own tuning? If no, take that $200 and go to PCMFORLESS.COM and get a tune for $100. I hear from those people who go there that he does really good work. Then use the $100 for whatever you feel like spending it on.
If you do want to take the time to learn how to program your computer, do it. That is, if you have the time and want to make the effort. I've been doing it now, and I've learned a lot about my Z and about every other car I could get info on. It's interesting (to me at least, I'm in college for computer engineering) and it's something that let's me connect what I'm the best at with something I love. Take the $200, go to www.tunercat.com and www.akmcables.com and get tunercat and the cable for OBD1. Then tune away, being careful to have an extra PCM on hand just in case you fry your original. It happens to a lot of people. But if you decide to add more mods down the road, then you can tune your car again to adjust to the mods. Well, hopes this helps. I'm off to get more beer.
