Well your car being a 96 its OBD II the software is a little more money. If it was me and i wanted to do my own tuning get an OBD I conversion and get Tunercat which is a little over $100 after you buy the def file thats just my opinion im sure others will have different opinions.I have an OBD II Tunercat for sale in the classified section

96 and up cars use downstream O2 sensors and a crank sensor and use readiness status monitors for emissions testing. This is another thing when you need to get a smog i dont know how the rules are in the state you live in.OBD I is a little more forgiving for not throwing a SES light like

Not being a jerk but i would not reccomend trying the tuning thing on your own if you dont know the difference between OBD I and OBD II.And you need to understand what certain sensors make fuel and spark decisions to the PCM and what affects they will have when you go to tuning a car.
