mass air for speed density??

My bro has a 97ss and the fuel maps are in speed density but he still has what seems to be a Mass Airflow sensor? What is the mass airflow meter used for?

The ECM will use the maf tables to calculate it fueling.
It will not use the fuel maps (VE tables).
That answer your question?

Its a fail safe for when you do not have a MAF for whatever reason.

The car will light up the SES and will run to wherever you need to.
