LT1 edit hardware

I'm getting a laptop soon and I read on carputing.com that your supposed to have an RS232 port on your computer for it to work but then I went on AKMcables.com and you can order a USB cable or a RS232. So do you really need a notebook with RS232 or can I just look for one with USB?
Thanks

The problem with USB is with 232<->USB adapters. Many of them are flaky.

If the ALDL cable itself ends in a USB connection that probably is fine (no personal experience with these.)

A laptop suitable for tuning, with a real RS232 port, can be picked up for ~$50.
