I don't run one at all. As long as I use the fuel the engine was tuned for, the aftermarket ECU has all the tweeks it needs to compensate for changes in engine operating temp, excessive inlet air temp, etc.

Yes, I do. I have pushed the limit. I do not like to retard spark advance timing. I've found alot of "false" knock sensor problems, and, subsequently, eliminated it in the PCM flash. I do have a manual msd timing advance control if needed. (97ss - 383 - D1 with 9.5:1 static compression) IC with Meth/ H20 injection. B.

Not hooked up here. Similar situation to Injuneer.
My last motor would ping a bit though if you bogged it down (13.0 compression and pump gas)

I keep 5 degrees, just in case. I haven't seen any knock though, in the last few scans. If I knew I was having false knock, I would probably zero it out.

Glad I kept mine for inital set up and tuning... in fact I went out of my way to drill through some of the rock-block to make sure I got a "coolant tunnel" to the knock sensor to get it working the best I could manage with a rocked block.

I suppose its possible to run without knock sensors if the tune is solid in ALL conditions, but one bad tank of gas on a really hot day and you could find some trouble.

Depends if you can get rid of false knock I guess... some combinations may be nearly impossible to run without false knock. Solid lifters, a noisey set of roller rockers, and even some banging/rubbing on headers can cause it. I run 12.5:1, a touch below the limit of premium gas and would honestly need to retard my timing mroe than it is with the knock sensor.

I doubt the problems would pop up at WOT (PE mode) where it runs 12 to 12.5 AFR, but at part throttle with decent load (and 14.7 AFR) I'd be concerned about knock.

My car has been tuned to run without the k/s. My car has always had a problem with false knock.

since there's one other Knock sensor runner I'll post my thoughts

I ran 37 degrees advance with 13.5 AFR with 7psi and had a little knock at 5500rpms and 92 octane... yes I blame this on actual spark knock.. but this was also making some happy HP with that combo.

Now I run 23-25 degrees timing with 12-12.5 AFR for safeness sure I lost 40hp from timing an fuel but I dont see any knock.

Are there really that many people seeing false knock? How can you be sure? I feel the knock sensor is a backup safety net for a multitude of potential problems such as fuel pump, lack of fuel pickup (pressure), filter clog, environment, etc....

Plus.. if you set 15 degrees retard upon knock if you do get knock you can tell when it's retarding so you know somethings up.

Or.. if motors are really that indestructable then maybe a "little" knock is OK and I can go back to mid 30 timing with mid 13 afrs?

I remember running my stock LT1 with 6psi on stock exhaust and hearing some ping at WOT (each time) for about 3 months.. nothing ever happened.. all ring lands were fine and never burnt oil.

In high school I had a Cougar XR-7 Turbo and floored it in a "pass of death" floored with 87 octane and that motor started knocking to the point it almost stalled (yea only 180hp) .. it never had a problem after that with better gas...

So, curious if you guys with disabled knock sensors are pinging just arent aware of it?

No Knock sensor here. Been that way for at least 3 years... on a car driven hard on and off the spray.

My rationale was that with the right fuel.... and tuning... car shouldn't knock.
