Getting the correct timing is hit or miss. Too far will cause detonation and knock, too small and you wont' get max power. Generally, you want to increase in small increments until you get knock, then back down to where you didn't get knock. This is usually only a couple of degrees across the board.

most people find the biggest power gains in leaning it out a beat using the AFR tables.

Re: help with timming ????

There are many factors that affect detonation one of which is intake air temperature. You might have ran very close to detonation but with cooler air temperature at night, you didn't notice any knock. See at what rpm and map its knocking and backup the timing there a couple of degrees.
You can check if its reel knock by rising the fuel octane, if you get the same timing retard with better fuel then its false, if it reduces are disapears then your knock is real.

I reccomend getting on a dyno so that you can quatify what timeing does what.

Alot of time LESS timing will work better than too much (before knock still)
