6speed swap problems
6speed swap problems
ok i been workin on converting my car to 6 speed...the car has all the bolt ons plus cam mild head work...etc...the has been running stock programming (no hypertech..etc) for a while now and i was waiting to get a custom program from PCMFORLESS...ok i did the swap and ofcourse "nothing whatsoever" wired up...so the car has nothing plugged into the 6speed, it seemed to drive fine when i first got in it, and i havent stood in the gas or anything just normal loops around the block but when it gets above about 2700rpm or so it will kinda buck and you can tell its either timming or fuel curve or somethin but it jsut stalls out and wont rev any more than that...revs fine in neutral, reved fine before i pulled automatic out...i still have my automatic computer in there because im waiting for the M6 computer to come in the mail but would the computer cause all that bucking, missing, and slight backfire thru the intake??? anyone done a conversion before and not changed the computer??? should it affect timming, fuel curve and such from the automatic harness not being plugged up...ohh and if anyone has any advice on wiring this thing up id apreciate...the link i got to a walkthru wasent very clear on the wiring
Sigh...the wiring is VERY clear in my writeup :
There are 5 things you need to worry about - brake lights, reverse lights, clutch switch, hatch release, and VSS. CAGs and reverse lockout can be ignored. Connect the battery so things can be tested out while you work. The switch that used to be connected to your automatic brake pedal (with two connectors on it) needs to be installed and adjusted on your new brake pedal. This controls the brake lights and cruise. With the switch in, the brake lights should be off, and vice versa. Next, extend the yellow and brown 12 gauge wires and attach them to the black clutch switch. This will prevent the car from starting unless the clutch is in. Polarity is not relavent here. Next, the 16 guage brown and green wire needs to be wired to the reverse light connector. Test this first by connecting them together. If the reverse lights do not turn on, find out what the problem is before continuing. Otherwise, connect them to the reserve light pigtail which plugs into the driver side connector on the tranny. Polarity is not relavent here. Test this again by putting the car in reverse and checking for the reverse lights to come on. Next, connect the black w/white stripe and orange w/black stripe wires together. This is done so you can use your hatch release. Finally, get under the car and cut the VSS connector from the A4 harness. Wire the new VSS connector in (it is located on the passenger side all the way on the back near the bottom). I would reuse the plastic tubing as it needs to be weather protected. Polarity is relavent here - the purple wire goes to A.
As for your car problems, the M6 loads the car in different ways and doesn't "mask" tuning issues like a TC does. Did you hook up the VSS? I'd rig everything up right first (get PCM) before doing anything else.

whats VSS?? my automatic had only 2 plugs...one big round plug and then on 2 wire pigtail...neither of which will plug in anywhere on the 6speed...which "2" wires are the VSS, you said purple but im still not clear on what your sayin here...which one controls the speedometer?
