freescan: How long to connect
Download freescan and have it attached (cable) to the car (69 camaro with a 95 LT1). Key-on-engine-off. Click start/connect, see the bytes start increasing. It been going for more than 30 minutes. Doesn't seem right. Is this correct or did i do something incorrect?
Thanks,
Kevin

It should be doing that while it's connected. It's just a count of how much data has been sent back and forth. If you start the car you should notice the sensor values change, and you can also log the data.

If FreeScan is running and then key is turned on it takes about 10-15 seconds for PCM to start communicating with the PC. Otherwise if key is on and FreeScan is then started communications happens almost immediately. To verify it's working with key on engine off you should see RPM at 50, desired Idle RPM at 3187, MAP at close to 99, MAT (really IAT in the LT1) at actual temp on cold engine, BLM's LT & ST at 128, TPS at 0, TPS voltage (sensor diag. tab at actual voltage) and O2 voltages down near 0.04 volts (cold engine).

bobdc - when I looked at the sensor data I didn't see any values.
I have an OBD1 ECM, I have selected vehicle as GM 1994 Camaro Z28-Impala SS - Corvette (LT1). Assume this would be ok.
94ZTagTop - I don't see an "interact with PCM box" I clicked the "start" button under the Control tab within the Communications with ECM section. COM port is 4 which is what the cable is linked to.
I ran the battery dead. I'll start the car tomorrow and see if data comes through.

To clarify on control tab screen over towards the right "FreeScan Operational Mode" box, select Force Data -> 'Interact' button. Then click start communications w/ECU. Is your Status Message window scrolling messages after you start communications ? Also.. GM 1994 Camaro Z28-Impala SS - Corvette (LT1) is the correct vehicle selection for a '95 LT1 f-body. What type of cable are you using (straight USB or serial /USB adapter) ? and what operating system (95/98/XP/Vista) ?
Did you tick the "Interact with PCM" box? You have to do that with Freescan in order for it to work.

Is the driver for the cable installed? If not it will not work correctly because it will not recognize the hardware. You will not get a fault message either. Ask me how I know......lol. I've got about 2 pcmcia cards I've been through and two sets of USB conversion cables. Many kinds of usb cables will not work due to the transfer rate not being adequate. I do know that a keyspan will work though. If you need a model number just let me know and I'll go out to my car and get the number off my cable.
oops to slow..........I see you got it working.

Many USB cables will not work due to the transfer rate. - Stated earlier
Maybe that is my concern too. I have the AKM Cable with the Serial/USB converter AND I installed the driver. I get the Status Message window scrolling fast but no data on the Engine Data or Dashboard. Could that be why I don't see the data but get activity in the Status Message window?
