Electrical System going haywire?
Electrical System going haywire?
Ok, I don't know if this is the right section or not, but my electrical system is going crazy. My lights come on when I press the brakes, when i turn on my blinker it goes really fast and my clock light blinks with it. My blinker doesn't work when my lights are on, and this may or not be related but my temp gauge is messed up too. As soon as I turn my car on it will go all the way to the right past 260 then it will read what it is supposed to then jump to the right again. Has anyone heard of anything like this before?
Re: Electrical System going haywire?
I know this sounds obvious and too simple, but check your battery terminals. Clean them with a small wire brush and put dielectric grease on them if you have some. If that does not take care of it, I would then check all the grounds you can find. There are the grounds on the passenger side strut tower area, 3 are in place on the stud which the ignition coil mounts, and another you will see if you remove the air intake box down near the ABS setup.
How does your battery guage read on the dash when all this is going on? Is it eratic?
Mine showed some of your symptoms when my battery terminals were slightly loose.
If these checks do not yield a solution then I suppose you could be in the same boat as me. I believe the internal voltage regulator of the alternator is failing. It holds a charge fine, but the voltage has peaks and valleys at random intervals. If you don't have scanning software and cable, you probably won't realize the voltage spikes.
Let us know what fixes it in case someone else has a similar problem
