Dyno tune or street tune which is better??

I have a friend that said having your car tuned on the street is better then dyno tunning because dyno tune is only at WOT. Is that true? Would my car be better off having it street tuned?

you want everything tuned, not just WOT

Just so happens it's best/cheapest/most important to Dyno Tune WOT since it's extremely safe to do so on a dyno, and you can quickly measure performance relative to the changes you made.

I on the other hand I used I-75 for my WOT tuning which is now becoming unsafe due to the amount of power (added more psi's) and Im getting older... when I was younger everything seemed safe.

I tune down the racetrack, they make runs with datamaster hooked up logging air fuel ratio through the a/c sensor input. What you see on the dyno isnt always the most indicative of track performance. It works great for tuning with a roll into 3rd gear though . Dont quite get the same results when you're sitting on the brake at 2000rpm and go wot instantly and the car shifts a couple of times. Sometimes things that hurt power on the dyno make the car faster down the track... shh.

Stand alone dataloggers are a little handier than the stock pcm if you have the patience to sync up the data and figure out what to adjust where and when, they are especially great for speed density tuning. Comparing rpm slopes or accelerometer readings from various runs knowing what changes you made is a nice tuning tool also.

Even with the dyno tune though, you're gonna have to tweak the thing on the street for drivability. Its not all just over and done when you get wot nailed down, theres alot of subtle massaging to make things nice on the street under some strange conditions that pop up with traffic etc.

i did a fast tune for a freind on his vette at the strip using this logic. if the car started to detonate it would pull timing ie slowing the car down. we picked up a tenth with a very mild fuel map and 1 degree of timing in the 90 to 100 kpa. and about 8 miles a hour. he was happy and i was happy. i was not willing to go any higher on the fuel map with out a dyno. but i ordered the ecm to pe mode of about 12.3 to 1 from factory 11.5 to one
