About to inatall my BS3 onto an LT1 using LS1 coils. Is this all I need?

I talked to BS3 personally a while back and I kept on getting different answers. So I basically told them to send me everything I need to be able to run coil packs. That was back then and finally went through boxes looking at stuff. From what I can tell, this is what they sent me

BS3 LS1 sequential system
MSD cam sync stub
Crank trigger w/ teeth style wheel

I'm hoping someone here knows enough about these systems to help me out. They also told me I would not need an E-dist system which I have so no biggy if I do have to use it

I just went through all this and found that part #8514 is not a hall effect type sensor and will not work with the BS-3 system. GM does make a hall-effect cam sensor (was used on late-model 7.4 liter motors) GM Part #1104068.

A little more information on this part. It was used from 1998-2000 on the 7.4L engine (454). It is listed as the oil pump drive with camshaft position sensor. It runs about $250 shipped. If anybody can find it less expensive please let me know.

Thanks

I purchased mine from: http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ $205.89, but I don't recall what the shipping costs were.

I was looking for the part number for the CRANK sensor 24x that can be fitted into our engines... Do we use the 96 timing cover to do this?

The BS3 24X wheel and HED pickup: PN JMI-007-011 and runs about $200.00. I don't have a picture but I've been told it is 8" in dia. and will mount to a balancer. Would be nice to see a picture of it. You are are on your own to mount the sensor.

The crank sensor used on 1996 and newer LT-1 motors isn't a 24x signal, so it will not work with an LS-x based BS-3 system. As Danno74Z mentioned, you need Big Stuff-3's LS-x crank trigger system. I mounted mine on the driver's side and I run an F1-A and it all fit nicely. You will need to fabricate a mounting bracket to hold the sensor. I spaced the 24x wheel approx. 3/8" back from the balancer.

Dumb question, maybe. But, can you run BS3 with the stock optispark?

Thanks,

Eric

Yes it can but you need a specific BS3 ECM and Opti wire harness connector. You also have to select the Opti ignition in the software. I don't have direct experience with the BS3 system but through my reading found this information. Go to the BigStuff 3 site and download the SEFI manual and you can read for yourself the ignition systems that can be used. Just about all common types. I'm going to a COP ignition on my LT1 and need the BS3 ECM that is used on the LS1 and all the other parts - coils, crank sensor and cam sensor plus some fab work as mentioned by others in this thread. More work and $ for sure but I want to get rid of the Opti and use an after market computer system.
