DTC 83 code? Help needed.
DTC 83 code? Help needed.
Alright, I have a suspected DTC 83 code in my Formula. I know that it controls the EVAP solenoid, EGR solenoid, fan relays and the reverse lockout solenoid. Since it controls the EGR solenoid, does this mean it should run like crap? It blew a fuse, which I initially replaced, and it ran fine, until it blew it again, and now runs like total crap. I'll be scanning it again here in the next couple of hours to check it out a bit more.
Any ideas on what all would happen if this fuse (fuse #6 in the fuse box under the hood in my 94 Formula) was blown? I'm just trying to figure out what all is going on, and if there is something else besides just this blown fuse.
Any suggestions welcomed.

The fuse that supplies the reverse lockout solenoid (DTC 83) also feeds other devices, including the skip shift solenoid, EVAP solenoid and EGR solenoid. If the fuse was the cause of DTC 83, all those other devices would not be functioning, and would set their own codes. But, if DTC 83 is caused by a faulty reverse lockout solenoid, or the wiring, loose connector, etc, the other devices would still be functioning fine.
Failure of the EGR solenoid will not cause it to "run like crap". If it did, the 87,532 people who have deleted their EGR systems would not be as happy as they seem to be
According to the 94 Owner's Manual, fuse #6 also supplies the fan relays. The PCM might take some actions to protect the engine and emissions in the even the fans were not working.
If a fuse "blows", its often due to a short, or a device that has failed and is drawing excessive amps. You need to check out the components one at a time.
Why is the code "suspected"? Did you scan it or not? Is the SES light on? Do you have codes for the other systems?

Haven't scanned it yet. Won't probably be able to until Monday. It seems to run fine in open loop, its when it goes to closed loop that it starts running like crap. Scanning it will be essential to figuring out exactly what it is. I thought it might be the DTC 83 because it recently blew the fuse you reffered me to. But the fuse is still good, and reverse seems to work fine still.
After I scan it, I'll let everyone know what the results were to further diagnos the issue.
