DTC 43 ESC Failure???

This code is not in TunerCat to be able to be turned off, and I was wondering if anyone knew what this was and what causes it. I think it is Electronic Spark Control, but I'm not sure. It seems I get it with the current tune I have, but if I put in a previous tune, it goes away. What the hell is this thing?? I appreciate everything.

DTC 43 = knock sensor circuit failure. Use Shoebox's list, its LT1-specific:

Check the knock sensor and the wiring..... easy to do.

Re: DTC 43 ESC Failure???

I looked on TunerCat and that's what it said for that DTC number, but when I get the code in either Free Scan or the other free scan program I use, it says ESC Failure. Whenever I get a code, it always has the correct name and number, except this one. The knock sensor is working because it is picking up enough to cause 3* of retard at idle and 0* when the car is driving. I guess that means it works. I appreciate the help.

No, that doesn't mean it is working. When the PCM loses the knock sensor, it defaults to an internal table basing knock retard on MAP and TPS. That's why you are getting 3deg at idle.... its the value from the default table.

All this is based on stock programming/logic. I have no way of knowing what your tuner may have done to the knock retard constants and limits.
