crank sensor code

crank sensor code

hey guys own a 97 z and it won't pass emission testing in n.c own my own shop.says to replace crank sensor car runs fine.dealer says the sensor is in the front.two dealers said this and nether could find it.have installed new dist.one other thing is i don't see a service engine or check engine light.pulled dash and looked with light under the indicator panel.car has cat codes also any help? new ecm or programing nether dealership recomended this. help my wifes going to kill me!!!!!!!!!!!

Why does it not pass emissions - besause it is showing codes, or because it fails a tailpipe test? What are the exact codes you are getting?

You didn't get an SES light, but you found the codes by looking under the dash, or were you just shining a light up nito the panel to see if the SES bulb was stil there? Very confusing.

The crank position sensor is on the bottom/side of the timing cover. This photo shows the 3 different covers used on the LT1 engines. The one on the left has the crank position sensor boss.
