Post Computer newbie...some basic materials questions

Good Afternoon,
Could some of you computer gurus give me some products/links??

I would like to have constant monitoring of everything I can through an always plugged in laptop. I'm a network admin...I have more monitors (applications not physical monitors) that tell me everything from email to who's surfing what...and I kinda want the same thing for my car.
Specs are in the sig.

EDIT: and maybe also some links to informational websites?

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Cheers,
-MJ

Hal,
Thanks for the info. I tried searches...but I really didn't know what I was searching for which made the process rather tedious and enerving! Sorry for posting what has already been answered. Hopefully these articles will help me out.

Thanks Again!!
Cheers,
-MJ

Search for Freescan, that monitors pretty constantly, so long as your laptop is fast enough to do so. I've found PII class laptops to be pretty good (I think 12-13 captures/s average), Pentium is ok for about 8 samples per second.

There is a link to Freescan inside the akmcable.com pages.
