Lightbulb 94 computer switch with 97

Well, the previous owner told me that he had switched out the original computer with a 94 ecu... he said it was a little easier to tune the obd1 rather than the obd2 computer, however, the plug (under the dash) is still obd2. I am throwing codes right and left and I have tried to ged a diagnostics ran a few times... same thing every time: VEHICLE NOT RESPONDING... but, that was before I knew that the computer was switched...

My question is how easy is it going to be to put another 97 z-28 M6 ecu in the car... since that is what the car is anyways??????... way more sensors??? I am not familiar with all of the sensors... there are 2 under the hood that are just bundled up and sip tied out of the way.

I guess that the worst news is that the guy moved away and is out of contact... I wish I could have asked him... but that is out of the question. I hate guess work... I constantly run accross
[EDIT] in that car!

Sorry about the long post, help is appreciated though, thanks!

just get the correct plug for your scan tool, you can read obd1 codes from a obd2 connector if he did swap to a obd1 computer

1995 F-body cars, even though they were OBD1, had the OBD2 style connector in them. GM routed the OBD1 serial data to pin 9 on the OBD2 style connector. The 1996-1997 OBD2 PCMs still had this serial data wire hooked up. This is why, in theory, it should work. But you said in your original post that it is not.

I'd recommend checking the PCM to be sure it is indeed OBD1. You can tell by the service number on it. If the service number is 16188051, it is OBD1. If it is 16214399, it is OBD2 (and I believe there may have been yet another service number for the 1997 LT1 PCM).

It is OBD1, and there is a little pin that is just sitting outside of the wire wrapping... the number is 16188051, OBD1 for sure... how do I go about putting in a 97 computer, I got one coming in the mail... what all sensors need re plugging in, or re-ran, and what about that one that is unplugged right by the Computer? Please help

There are no wiring changes required to convert from OBD2 to OBD1, so just plugging in the 1997 computer is all that is necessary.

how many wires is it? If it is one red wire, that's the fuel pump manual activation terminal and is supposed to be disconnected.
