What stall converter is right for me?
What stall converter is right for me?
alright, i already know that i want bewteen a 2800-3200 stall converter. i only drive a few times a week, i have a 67 camaro with a 355 and 3.73's with a posi. i just want to drop a few tenths in the 1\4 mile. and i figure this is one of the best ways.
im running 13.5 right now. how much might i drop?
Now, does it really matter if i go b&m or just some cheapy converter like this one.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2458897226
it doesn't look to bad does it?
also whats the difference between 9" and a 10" converter? which is better for me?
is their any trick to installing them? i know i gotta drop the tranny, but i have access to a lift and a tranny jack. but nothing is ever as simple as planned :P what problems might i run into?

whts your cam specs, car weight, compression, tire size and type..
as far as tricks, i can say wait till you swing the tranny down a little to get at the cooler lines..Same as far as installing..Dont save them till its up in the car mounted..

Id stay with a 2400 -2800 converter..No smaller than a 10" unit with a 2-1 torque ratio..You seem to have a small mild setup..Get a converter that will allow the engine to get up in the powerband a little more than stock.
so 2400-2800 would be better for me than a 2800-3200?
and whats a cheap converter thats well made that i can purchase. im only making around 300-320 horsepower. so nothing spectacular. i just want a little better 60 ft.
how much would a 2400-2800 help me out?

as far as price goes try comething from TCI or B & M..Stay away from GER in pennsylvania like a damned aids ridden herpies carring free hooker with a crackpipe stuck in her mouth and a lighter in her hand..
is this a good converter?

a 3200 stall would work good the 32 stall with your motor will work around 28 to 3000 rpm a freind has a 5500 stall but he has a blower in his car and when it is turned up it is 1000 horse power gos like a pat outa hell so 3200 will help you launch better
10" would slip a little more than a 11" but id say get a 10"..As far as the 3200 stall unit thats a watse of time that will kill your ETs..Its way to hig for the combo your running..It will launch better by the sotp but will run way slower and with such a mild motor that probally falls flat at 5k will make for a peky slug whne it comes time to run the number..
1981zzz you cant compare one to another when it comes to converters..Even if the car is almost the same..Street cars always run better and faster with less stall and more gear..

it would be closer to 2800. and my torque picks up between 2600-3000. i shift at 5200 rpm and it when i shift i drop down to 3400 rpm. so its out of the stall range. i have a th-350 with 3.73's and a eaton posi.
if u still think its not right, what speed converter should i go with? i was thinking with a 2400, i wouldn;t be getting as much as i could. but how much more streetable would it be?

2400 if you want to leave on your torque(something a street car should do)..2800 if you race it ofetn and drive it short distances..Drag race cars setup differently..Sticky tires and HP are what the work off of..Street cars will run best off torque..Have the stall speed just under the torque peak..In your case 2400 and your passes will be made from the engines torque..For a street care with a mild combo like yours you will be better off with a 2400 unit..All you need is to get the engine closer to the torque range of the cam..If she pulls harder around 2600 then a 2800 unit may just blow the tires off and shock the rear suspension to hard requiring further mods...
If you have a sticky tire then go up to the 2800 stall unit preferablly in a 10" version..Thats if you require that last thousandth of a sec in your et..

You get pretty damn good times with that 8.85 compression ratio. Just curious .........if you don't know your cam ...........how do you know your compression ratio? I run low 13's with 10:1 compression
