What carb to get
Re: What carb to get
i ended up getting this
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0271&langId=-1
I got tricked into it. (very long story) Now none of my an fittings and lines will work but it fianlly runs well. (it runs at all is a huge step forward)
I got it for 200 with eletric choke (brand new, outa the box)
When i do something more wild i will upgrade (n20, forced induction, etc)
or i might do a FI swap and get to drive it more often !!!

Re: What carb to get
thats a great little carb, it;ll treat you well. i have that exact carb on my 325 horse 350, and have had NO problems with it. it even keeps a tune better than most holleys ive worked on. enjoy the shiny finish while it lasts though, it;ll fade after a while. check out my page in the link in my sig if you want to see it installed.
Re: What carb to get
We're using a Predator on our '70 Camaro. After trying 3 different Holleys, we went with this set-up. The motor is a destroked 400 (386) with cast Iron (unported) heads, Edelbrock Super Victor intake, HEI, .646" lift solid roller. It goes 10.83 @ 125 MPH.
The Predator is a variable venturi carburetor, which means you're never over or under carbureted. It works off engine demand. The Predator has no jets, and only has 2 adjustments....Engine idle, and low speed air/fuel mixture. The A/F mixture is easily set in a few seconds. This is a carburetor you "bolt on and go".
After going with the Predator, I can assure you this car will NEVER have a Holley back on it.

Re: What carb to get
I've always been intrigued by the Predator, although I've never actually owned one.
I have however heard a lot of people complain about them. It has occurred to me that the complainers might have created their own problems, but I'm not in a position to say one way or the other.
Do you have any thoughts on the issue? Perhaps some useful insight and maybe even a theory about what people do WRONG with these carbs?

Re: What carb to get
After having a properly tuned Holley on your motor you will throw the others in the trash can.
I have a couple predators sitting on top of a tunnel ram on a shelf for display...that is the only good use for them.
For pretty much any race motor a Pro series holley will outshine any other carb if it is properly tuned on a dyno by someone who knows how to do it....

Re: What carb to get
We had 3 different Holleys on the car with 2 different Holley "pros" tune them. We went through an AED 950, an HP 850, and a BG 750. The Predator went quicker than any of them...The first time out. We've atleast got a few expensive Holley "paper weights" hanging around, though.
The ONLY disadvantages to a Predator is the lack of vacuum ports, and their height.
The Predator isn't affected as much by temperature changes, either. No jets to change, no pump cams, no air bleeds, no squirters.
While everyone else is stuck in the pits...Trying to get their Holley adjusted to run right, we're on the track.
To quote David Vizard..."a Predator may be down a few HP when compared to A PERFECTLY TUNED HOLLEY". He goes on to ask..."WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SEEN A PERFECTLY TUNED HOLLEY?"
If you want to go fast with minimal effort, go with a Predator. If you like adjusting stuff and trying to get something perfect, go with a Holley.
BTW, the car has a perfect A/F ratio on the dyno, and we've ran the same spark plugs for 2 seasons.
We also shift the car at 7600 RPM's...So, the Predator isn't RPM limited, either.
The car also idles better with the "race" Predator on it then it did with any of the holleys.
I used to be a Holley fan...Until I seen myself what a piece of crap they are when compared to a good carburetor.
