paint question

i know its not a camaro or firebird but its a gm, im redoing a 76 oldsmobile regency but im wondering if theres any gm paint colors that look like a candy red color, and if it really helps that much on the value to have an original color?

Re: paint question

If you are doing a restoration to original stock config., then yes it's important to keep an original stock 76 color!
Candies are "tinted" clears over (usually) silver. And I don't believe any manufacter has done this as a stock color.

Re: paint question

I'm not up on my Olds., but the color is usually on the firewall plaque (in code). Any auto paint supply store will have a chart with all the colors that were available by year and make.

Re: paint question

as long as its a gm color then would that be just as good as having an older factory color for value?
thanks

Re: paint question

This all depends on what your intentions are. If your doing this just to have a nice looking old Olds. then customize it the way you want to. But if your doing an original resto. with the intent to maintain it as a collector car, or sell to a collector, then you'll HAVE to do the research and find out what the original color was and paint it that color.

I think what Z28SORR meant was the original engine color(probably black or blue), not body color(as you said white). White wasn't use as an engine color from the factory.
If you want you could paint it rainbow, but then your not makeing it a collector your makeing it a custom.
