I have a question about what type of rearend would be recommended for 750hp
Hey there. I have a 69 Camaro with a 454 that pumps out 500+ hp. I have changed the rearend to a 3.31 ratio and its a 10 bolt now. It has stock axles with posi-traction. I am thinking about upgrading the 454 to a 632 ci that has around 750hp for a street car. This motor runs on pump gas and all so it should be fairly maintenance free. What type of rearend should be used for a motor like this? I want to know what type of setup I would need to benefit from the power this engine will produce? I have frame connectors and traction bars. I just want to know what would be the absolute best for me and for a decent price. I want something that will be somewhat easy to install and not really complex to the point where I have to change a lot of parts. I have centerline wheels (15 by 9.5) and the car is stock looking with no mini tub or anything. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

With that kind of power your better off calling one of the major drive line companys like Strange or Mosier. I personally like this company.

Yeah, I would say you're getting into "back half" range...
I'd be looking into coilovers with either a ladder or 4 link, aftermarket housing, etc.
You might be able to get away with just a strong 12 bolt or 9 inch housing with some 35 spline axles and a spool, but you really need to look into some suspensionwork too so the power makes it to the ground

For the rear end I agree with Timberwolf. But as far as getting the power to the ground here's is what you can do.
1. Buy a set of Landrum parabolic mono-leaf springs
2. Buy a set of Cal-Tracs
3. Get a pair of QA1 adjustable rear shocks
4. Get some front drag race shocks
5. Bolt this on and go racing.
With this setup (less than $700 and less than a day to install) you won't have to do any mods to the car with the exception of changing the rear spring perches from multi to mono leaf, but you don't even have to do that. You can get a spacer from Landrum to fill up the extra space. I just installed all this stuff last week on my 68.
And if you are wondering how I know this will support your power, I got this setup from a guy in Houston who is running 8.90s in the quarter with this exact setup on 10" tires
Let me know if you have any questions.

You dont have to back half it but puttin that kind of power to the ground on a 10" slick is going to be dificult. Traction may be less that "good". there is a guy in this area running MID 9's in a 64-65 Elcameno with stock wheel wells IE 10" slick but he's to the point of adding ballast to get it to hook. (he's running a moser 12 bolt, spool, 35 spline axles ect)
I have the suspension setup that Cory mentioned except I took out the front drag springs and put in the QA1 coil overs for better street manners. I also put that amount of hp to the ground and use a Strange dana 60 with a detroit locker, 35 spline axles and MT 28x12.50s. Traction in a "normal" track environment is no problem with a good burnout but is miserable on the street or an unprepped track surface (gotta love Alamo, eh Cory!!).
I used to pull the front wheels when launching but with the "road inspired" coil over front it doesnt come up anymore but just seems to go straight with no lifting or even too much squatting.
