Stock 81 Z's have low compression, which is good for a blower/turbo, but holy crap, if its stock, it's 21 yrs old, and if you put a blower on it, the car, will, well, blow up......Don't do it. You can't just bolt something on like that.....you need all forged components, like crank/rods/pistons/pushrods etc etc.......and a whole bunch of other stuff I can't even list or think of.....

It would be easier and probably cheaper in the long run to go another route to find your extra power. With boost, it would be a sound idea to get an air/fuel mixture guage because if it leans out detonation can happen. Also iron heads don't mix well with high compression and pump gas. I'm not really sure why but thats what my speed shop told me.

Boost is no friend to a cast bottom end (pistons/rods mainly). You usually have to build an engine around the blower so it will run like it should

I wouldnt worry too much about rods and the crank unless you're gonna push lots of boost.. Forged pistons yes. stock rods w/all the work done will be fine if you keep the RPM's 6k and below. I'm running a SCAT 5140 crank, stock rods and TRW forged pistons..it'll hold up. Pushrods..buy some $100 pushrods..no junk on those. I agree with 70 Cam Guy on building the engine specifically for the blower.. BTW, which kind? roots, centr. ?

Thanks for your replies. First off I was thinking of a roots type blower. But after what you all said I think I'll either just buy a crate engine and drop it in or build up an awesome N/A engine. But I might think about the blower still.
