hesitation problem almost fixed, ???'s

ok, installed a new CC306 magnum cam on my 400 pontiac as well as a few new puhsrods (bent), also did new caliper and brake pads and cannister plus a new holley electric fuel pump and double roller. ok, previous to this the car would cut off and it was hell to get it started, found out the mechanical fuel pump was bad so that was replaced with the holley. after driving it when all parts were installed.....car would stall out at intersections even though it would run strong with no hesitation any other time. so i'd put it in N and rev the engine (dumps at the supercomps and that cam doing this did not make anyone happy, lol). got home, adjusted the timing up from 36* to 39* i believe it was.......adjusted the idle up also. so now the car USUALLY idles at 900 just like before, BUT it will jump to 1300 or so if i blip the throttle a tad. all sounds good, but after a good drive the damn thing still wants to stall on me! seems i got the timing and idle correct since at idle after warm up everything is kosher.....but drive the car and all hell breaks loose at the light more than half the time. starts right back up if i mash the accelerator and turn the key (some white puffs of smoke come out sometimes). i do need to clean the K&N (its also very small in order to fit under the shaker, may be a prob) and carb may need to be cleaned, have not checked that. but i don't understand what the hell the problem is? car used to do this when it got hot, but i got a phenolic spacer on there as well as heat sheild over ALL the fuel lines. only thing i can think of is that with the new cam, the carb needs adustment? but why run right, then not if so? also the brakes kinda suck, even though new disc assembly up front.....so there seems to be a vacuum problem i think even though everything in that regards is new. for that matter the whole ****ing engine compartment back to the gears is new or brand new! cept the old tranny. and BTW i am not a carb tuner. owner of 4 3rd gen black TA's and GTA's and a '96 WS.6. sorry so long, but i am at a loss for why this car's idle is so wild one way or the other. thanks.

maybe your fuel pressure is to high that would make it run great and overload at idle mashing the pedal to the floor dumps all the gas in to the motor

yeah, that could be it. bad part is that the summit POS inline fuel pressure gauge is broken (bad part from the factory), so i can't even check that on the gauge i got on there.
