Engine not running

Hello all, I have a question from a friend and also me since I can't seem to figure out whats wrong with his motor. I've made my LT1 a carb'ed motor and I have gotten this thing to run strong at the track. The reson I did the swap was I bought the car with no motor in it. Then I found an LT1 block and didn't feel like spending 3 grand on the fuel injection setup. My buddy wants his LT1 carb'ed as well. So here goes...

We've got everything hooked up correctly and right. MSD Pro Billet 85551, MSD 6AL, Edelbrock 1405 (600cfm), Comp Cams "306" camshaft. Every time we go start the engine it won't run. The carb is spitting out gas which tells me its out of time. The cam was installed with the dots lined up and also the distributor was installed with the rotor button pointing towards number 1 cylinder. Cross checked plugs and they are correct 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Cross checked valve lash and its good. The hub was installed correctly (since its not keyed, just thought I would mention that).

Whats going on with this thing...how can it be out of time?? Thanks for all the help!

Re: Engine not running

Ha Ha...my buddy is funny. He didn't install the distributor correctly. I took off the timing cover and saw that when I had it at number 6 tdc, the rotor was facing towards number 1...yeah, he's a little upset. Thanks everyone! Well get this thing started here in a few minutes. I'm going to do everything myself since he's a little inexperienced. I think I just might flip the dizzy around, depends on how much I sweat outside! It's a hot one today.
