electrical problem
Hello all, Ive been helping a friend build up with 68SS, and we have run into an electrical problem... the story starts with him sitting at idle, and the CD player is on, it turns off like there isn't any power to it, then it resets and turns back on, before the CD can "load" again, the car dies... just dies... we can't get it started again, so we get it towed back to his house.
we start to check it over... this is what i can see so far.
-Good battery
-Alt is getting power
-Starter is getting power
-everything seems to be grounded
-distribtor (HEI) is getting power
-all the fuses are good
-the lights do not turn on
-no readings off the battery gauge
i have no clue whats going on right now... with everything checking out, its eather the fusebox or maybe the key? umm anyone got any ideas???
thx for the help

he used a voltage meter, so im assuming its good... i asked him to try another battery, but he said it was good.
so tomorrow ill change the battery, or jump it.
thx, it didn't make much sence to me in the first place because the started and alt were getting power

pull all the fuses (this will separate all the circuts in the car). Then check for power on the hot side of every fuse. Then put in one fuse at a time and check the items on that circuit (say the headlights for instance). If nothing is working, on any circuit, I would suspect something to be wrong with the power supply going to the fuse box.
The alternator and the starter power do not go through the fuse box, so I would first look at the power wire going from the bat (or starter) to the fuse box (how the box gets power).

Try Checking the main power wire that feeds your fuse block too. Mine was overloaded and when I checked the connector it was fried, the wire going into it looked fine, I had to pull out the wire a little to see that it was charred. although mine cutoff power completely, your problem could be similar as maybe you have a loose connection. Good Luck
