dipstick not reading correctly

I have a 98' SS, but my question is about my 79' dodge pickup. I just changed my oil pan on it and now my dipstick isn't reading correctly. When I look at it, one of the sides shows that it is low and needs oil. The other side says it has more then enough oil in it. It has th 318 V8 in it. I have put 5 quarts in it. Thanks for any help.

A Dodge, eh? I might be doing you a favor by lying to you and letting you blow the motor so you can make room for a Chevy!!

Putting religious issues aside, you want to believe the side of the dipstick that the oil film line is at a slight angle, like how the dipstick goes into the pan. Put another, simpler way, believe the side that is reading the LOWEST on the dipstick.

Think about it. I can almost hear your hand hitting your forehead and the "of course!" for not thinking of this sooner. Hehe heh. Good luck with it!
