i dunno, but do they make rubber gaskets for waterpumps?

Umm also make take the pump off and sit it on a flush surface and see if mounting face is true.

The thin paper ones are fine. Don't use too much silicone on it. I prefer Permatex or shellac for pump gaskets. Also check the surfaces of the block to make sure there isn't old gasket stuck on there. If all of that is ok, something might be restricting waterflow out of the block, causing pressure to build up.

I've changed a number of water pumps (including on an 81 Z28 I had) using the gaskets that came with the pumps along with Permatex non-hardening form-a-gasket sealant... I put a thin coat on both sides of the gasket and installed the pump.. Never had a problem leaking or blowing out.

Had the same problem with the blue gaskets. Seem to dissolve or something. I used the old style black gaskets with a thin layer or RTV and no problems so far. (knock on wood)
